Beet the Heat Margarita

Beet the Heat Margarita

Ok, this margarita is not going to be for everyone. In fact, I wasn't sure it was even for me, but I ended up really liking this, a lot! So, this is how it happened. I bought some juice that I thought was blood orange and carrot. I thought, hey, this could make and interesting drink. But when I went to make a drink and saw that the juice was actually BEET, blood orange and carrot I thought, no way can this be good. In my opinion beets aren't good in any shape or form. But since I didn't have anything else, we went for it. And I have to give my husband all the credit for this recipe, he dared try it when I did not.

This recipe makes 2 margaritas

Ingredients:

1/2 of a lemon, fresh squeezed

1/2 of a lime, fresh squeezed

1 oz Cointreau

1 oz agave syrup

2 oz. Organic beet, carrot, blood orange juice

1 oz orange juice (100% pure Florida OJ)

4 oz. Reposado Tequila (we used Corralejo tequila)

 A pinch of Kosher salt

Before starting anything, make sure to put the glasses and shaker in the freezer to chill for 10 minutes or so. We even put the tequila in the freezer this time of year to keep it extra cold. Add all ingredients to cold shaker and add ice. Shake for 25 seconds or so. Use chilled rocks glass or margarita glass filled with ice and pour into glasses.

Note: we add the salt into the shaker with all of the other ingredients here because I have come to like this method in margaritas better than rimming an entire glass with salt. For me, rimming the glass, even halfway is too much salt. You can do either way you would like, but the salt comes through just fine using this method. And would you get a look at that stunning color! So good!

Cheers!
