One Monday evening I wanted to try using the Meyer lemon syrup I had in the fridge that I had not been able to get right in a cocktail. The syrup is good, but quite bitter. So I thought maybe adding some agave syrup, orange liqueur, and orange bitters would offset the bitter qualities of the Meyer lemon and guess what?! It worked! Although the video we made for this drink called for 1 1/2 oz of agave, I think in hindsight I would reduce that even further to 1 oz. for two cocktails. The recipe is as follows:
Ma's Lemonade
4 oz good quality gin (Beefeater is a good mixing gin)
2 oz Meyer lemon syrup
1 1/2 oz. freshly squeezed lime juice
1 oz. agave syrup
1 oz. Cointreau or other orange liqueur such as Grand Marnier
2-3 dashes orange bitters
Get your glasses chilling in the freezer ahead of time. I used our exclusive Kestrel glasses. Next put all ingredients in a shaker with lots of ice. Shake good for 15-20 seconds so that all ingredients get nicely chilled and mixed. Pour into the chilled glasses that are filled with more ice (ice is very important), garnish with lemon or lime wheel, grab your favorite person and Voila!
